The Psychology Of Needing to Dominate Others

The desire to dominate others is part of the human condition and it has originally been developed as part of the will to survive, becausse if you dominated others, you would control the means to eat and establish protection, comfort, etc. So this drive has existed for a long time and because of that we continue to see it in our current, "sophisticated" societies, even when excercising domination over others is no more necessary from a point of survival. But now continuing this program serves on a psychological level as a way to establish inflated value for oneself. We want to dominate others, because we get off on it, it is causes a perverted form of feeling good to demote the other to the status of a powerless insect.

There are people in whom this desire to dominate others is more active and emphasized and in my view such people will tend to seek professions where they can habitually exercise domination over others, but now it is done behind the mask of professionalism, which will be abused in order to create situations to lower and humiliate another human being in order to get off on the process. We will find such individuals will look for work in the public service sector, administration jobs, in the police force, border agents (the behavior of the TSA is a great demonstration of the psychology of dominating others for personal gratification having become a runaway train), and last but certainly not least --- in politics.

It is my personal and very sincere belief that there is a great need for Public Servants to undergo psychological screening to seriously establish whether there is an exceptional strong need to engage in the above-mentioned behavior and to protect the public from such individuals. Additionally, I believe there needs to be a much more thorough screening concerning the criminal records of such individuals.

Let us all remember that we live in the year 2010. That is way beyond 1984.
